Harristown has completed its long-awaited SoMa (South of Market) streetscape improvements along the South Third Street corridor between Market and Chestnut Streets in downtown Harrisburg. The $200,000 project was funded in part by a grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
The improvements included new permanent brick pavers, bike racks, planters, bollards, logos, and a massive lighted “Welcome to SoMa” sign to increase and enhance the use of the neighborhood for retail and small business activity and to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and mobility.
“We’re thrilled to have this project completed and we look forward to welcoming more new tenants to the neighborhood,” said Brad Jones, president of Harristown Enterprises. “This project has been a long time coming, and it’s great to have it finished in time for our summer block party series.”
Harristown has invested over $25 million in the SoMa district over the past 25 years, which now includes Found Collab vintage thrift and artisan boutique, Tamara Boutique, Boneshire Taps @ SoMa, El Sol Mexican Restaurant, Veterans Multi-Service Outreach offices, Happy Home Healthcare, the Harrisburg Soniqs LAN Gaming Center, the Narçisse Theatre Company, the UPMC Health Sciences Tower at Harrisburg University and over 160 renovated apartments.
